How to Avoid Heat Stroke - Summer Special

Many of us are aware that getting exposed to high temperatures can make us sick, but still, we should know the basics on how to avoid heat stroke. Many people think that heat stroke only happens when they are overdoing something in a hot area. Also chronic conditions like heart disease or diabetes can increase the chances for heat stroke.

Here are several ways people can do to avoid heat stroke.

===============================
Instructions:

    • 1
Drink eight ounces of water every half hour when in the sun to avoid heat stroke. The body loses fluids when it perspires. Keep in mind that by the time a person is thirsty, the body is already dehydrated.
    • 2
To avoid heat stroke, stay clear of alcohol and caffeine. Drinks that contain alcohol and caffeine produce a diuretic effect, which depletes the body of necessary water and minerals.
    • 3
Don't go outside during the hottest part of the day. Go to the mall, library, or some place that has air conditioning. If you have to go outside, wear loose fitting clothing and move to the shade where temperatures are up to ten degrees cooler.
    • 4
To avoid heat stroke, replace lost minerals with food and drinks like bananas and quality sports drinks. Minerals such as sodium, chloride and potassium are all crucial to controlling body temperature. These minerals are lost when people perspire. Replenish these minerals by eating bananas and sipping sports drinks like Gatorade.
    • 5
When feeling hot, head to the sink and run cool water over both your wrists to avoid heat stroke. Major veins are located in the wrists. Running cool water over them can lower body temperature as much as three degrees and reduce the possibility for heat stroke.
    • 6
Plan ahead to avoid heat stroke. Watch the weather report and be prepared for hot days. Check with older relatives and friends to make sure they're also staying cool on hot days.

      And That's All!

Heat Stroke Causes, Signs, Prevention And Treatment

Heat Stroke

Most severe form of heat illness when the body overheats and can’t cool down. The body cannot take off the excessive heat from the body by sweating because of dehydration and/or humid environment.
Heat illness may be viewed as a continuum of illnesses relating to the body's inability to cope with heat. It includes minor illnesses, such as heat edema, heat rash (ie, prickly heat), heat cramps, and tetany, as well as heat syncope and heat exhaustion. Heatstroke is the most severe form of the heat-related illnesses and is defined as a body temperature higher than 41.1°C (106°F) associated with neurologic dysfunction.
Two forms of heatstroke exist. Exertional heatstroke (EHS) generally occurs in young individuals who engage in strenuous physical activity for a prolonged period of time in a hot environment. Classic nonexertional heatstroke (NEHS) more commonly affects sedentary elderly individuals, persons who are chronically ill, and very young persons. Classic NEHS occurs during environmental heat waves and is more common in areas that have not experienced a heat wave in many years. Both types of heatstroke are associated with a high morbidity and mortality, especially when therapy is delayed.
With the influence of global warming, it is predicted that the incidence of heatstroke cases and fatalities will also become more prevalent. Because behavioral responses are important in the management of temperature elevations, heatstroke may be entirely preventable.

Causes
    • the risk of heat stroke goes way up in hot and humid weather
    • vigorous exercise in hot weather
    • if you’re dehydrated
    • if you’ve had too much direct exposure to the sun
Signs
May start with the following signs of heat exhaustion:
    • warm, flushed skin
    • faintness
    • dizziness
    • weakness
    • headache
May progress to an emergency condition of heat stroke:
    • very high fever of 41 C
    • rapid heartbeat
    • convulsion
    • delirium
    • unconscious
Prevention
    • Limit the amount of time you spend outdoors.
    • Drink plenty of water. Avoid tea, coffee, soda and alcohol.
    • Wear a wide-brimmed hat and long-sleeved clothing when outdoors.
    • Schedule heavy-duty activities for the beginning or end of the day, when it’s cooler.
Treatment
    Emergency measures:
    • Move the person to a shady spot or indoors and have them lie down with their legs elevated. If they’re conscious, have them sip cool water.
    • Remove clothing, apply cool water to the skin and fan them.
    • Apply ice packs to the armpits, wrists, ankles and groin.
Heat stroke is a medical emergency! Bring the patient immediately to the hospital after instituting emergency measures.

How To Detect Fake Peso Bills (Philippine Peso Bills)

How to determine if your peso bill is fake or not:

(Information were provided by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas)

Paper
The paper feels rough when fingers are run through it. Genuine peso bills also do not glow under ultraviolet light.
Security Fibers
Visible red and blue fibers are embedded and scattered at random on both surfaces of a genuine bill. These can also be picked off easily by using any pointed instrument.
Color
Each peso note has a predominant color:
  • 1,000-piso – Blue
  • 500-piso – Yellow
  • 200-piso – Green
  • 100-piso – Mauve
  • 50-piso – Red
  • 20-piso – Orange
(a) Watermark
The watermark is the silhouette of the portrait on the face of the note. When viewed against the light, details of the light and shadow effect of the watermark can be seen. The contours of the watermarked portrait can also be felt by running the fingers over the design.
(b) Embedded Security Thread
This is a special thread vertically embedded off center of the peso note. This is easily seen when the bill is viewed against the light. It appears as a broken line for Php 5, Php 10 and Php 20 bills and a straight line for Php 50, Php 100, Php 200, Php 500 and Php 1,000 bills.
(c) Windowed Security Thread
This is a narrow thread located vertically like stitches on the note. It has a cleartext of the numerical value in repeated sequence. Depending on the angle view, it changes in color from magenta to green and vice-versa.
(d) Iridescent Band
The Iridescent Band is a glistening gold vertical stripe on the side of a note with the numerical value printed on it.
(e) Portrait
The portraits on the notes appear life-like especially since the eyes seem to “sparkle.” Shadings are formed by the fine lines that give the portrait a characteristic facial expression which is difficult to replicate.
(f) Serial Number
The Serial Number is composed of 1 or 2 prefix letters and 6 or 7 digits. It is printed with uniform size and thickness, evenly spaced, and well-aligned. It also glows under ultraviolet light.
(g) Background / Lacework Design
The background designs are made up of multicolored and well defined lines. The lacework designs are composed of web-crisscrossing lines which are continuous and traceable even at the intersection.
(h) Vignette
The lines and dashes of the vignette are fine, distinct, and sharp. The varying color tone gives a vivid look to the picture making it “stand out” of the paper.
(i) Value Panel
These are the numerals found at the four corners of the back and front surfaces of the note. They denote the denomination of the bill.
(j) Fluorescent Printing
An invisible numerical value on the face of the note that glows under ultraviolet light.
(k) Microprinting
These are minute and finely printed — but clearly printed and readable — words “Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas” or “Central Bank of the Philippines” located at the face or back of the note.
(l) Concealed Value
Php 500 notes have a Concealed Value located at the lower left corner on the front side of the note recognizable when the note is held at eye level.
(m) Optically Variable Ink
Php 1,000 notes have Optically Variable Ink that changes color from green to blue and vice-versa when the note is viewed in different angles.

And that's all! Now that you know all these, we hope you won’t be a victim of fake money!
